Oh Wonder - Oh Wonder

It's time for another brand new debut album: Oh Wonder by - guess who - Oh Wonder.

What is it with these self-titled albums lately? It seems like every band can't decide on a name for their album and then go "Well, at least we were able to decide for a band name, so let's just use that".

Anyway. The name isn't too important, what counts is the music.

Oh Wonder are a duo from London, consisting of Josephine Vander Gucht and Anthony West. They both are very talented as they not only write all these beautiful songs but also play lots of instruments and sing. Watch them perform one of their songs called Drive below.

I've fallen in love with Oh Wonder's music and now this album instantly. It's a beautiful record for those dark moments in autumn and winter. It makes me want to sit in front of a fireplace, with a hot chocolate in my hands, with this music on my ears and watch the rain outside. Or snow. Snow would be awesome...

The album is full of calm, chilled and clear sounding songs that take you into another world. The songs are emotive, very well produced and the vocals are soft, but on point.

As with my last album review on Nothing But Thieves, I picked three songs of the album you can listen to if you want a good impression of the band and the record without listening to it in full. Here they are:

As you might agree, after listening to these songs, the overall sound of Oh Wonder's music reminds of The XX and London Grammar. Thus, if you are a fan of one of these two, don't miss out on Oh Wonder. Or better said: Don't miss out on them at all.

Do you like that kind of music for rainy days? Or do you need something happier to banish the darkness? Leave a comment below or tweet me @JuliaSophieD. Can't wait to hear from you.
